About DBRB

The Development Bank Research Bulletin (DBRB) is an independent research project focused on banking, development, and global economics. Founded in 2006, DBRB provides analysis and commentary on economic policy issues affecting developing and emerging market economies.

Our areas of focus include:

The Bulletin draws from academic economic research and practical policy experience to offer perspectives that bridge theory and real-world institutional challenges. Representative articles include our analysis of the political economy of hatred, examining how politicians exploit social divisions for electoral gain; our coverage of China’s demographic challenge, which asks whether the country will grow rich before it grows old; and our look at colonial land tenure systems in India and why their effects persist decades after independence.

On development economics, the Bulletin has examined the Easterly–Sachs debate on development aid, the resource curse in Equatorial Guinea, and how cultural traits such as trust and self-determination shape long-run regional prosperity. On environmental economics, we covered the Grossman–Krueger finding that economic growth is ultimately good for the environment.
